A CHEATING husband accused of murder claims he accidentally strangled his new wife during a kinky sex game.

Michael Roberts, 27, allegedly killed 25-year-old Vicky when she discovered his affairs just five months after they wed, a court heard yesterday.

He hid her body in their garage while he concocted a “devious and clever” charade to cover up the murder, prosecutors claim.

And he even met his lover Karen Wilson for a romp in a hotel the day after the killing last November.

Roberts is said to have gone on the run as police discovered Vicky’s body – and remained at large for four days before being arrested.

He told police Vicky died during love-making as he pretended to choke her with her dressing gown cord.

But his story was a “fabrication” to hide the fact that he killed her after she found out he was cheating on her with Karen, a jury at Liverpool crown court was told.

He previously had a “purely sexual relationship” with another lover – workmate Kerrie Hall, who told detectives he “liked it rough”.

She said the phone shop worker liked to semi-strangle her during sex and carried a rucksack full of sex toys and bondage gear.

Prosecutor David Steer QC described Vicky, an accounts manager at a chemical firm, as “quiet and caring” – and “besotted” with Roberts.

He said: “To many people, including their families, they appeared the perfect couple. Sadly the reality was altogether different.” Roberts told workmates their marriage was in They trouble and Vicky was “doing his head in”.

Vicky had confessed to her boss they had problems and were sleeping in separate beds.

Mr Steer said: “Throughout their relationship, Roberts cheated on her. Vicky had discovered this – hence her unhappiness.” She questioned him after looking up Facebook entries, but he denied everything.

Six days before the killing, Roberts and Karen had sex in his car before he returned to the flat he shared with Vicky in Runcorn, Cheshire.

Vicky was reluctant to confront him and found it easier to write him letters, which were later found by police. In one she threatened to tell his parents about his affair if he didn’t end it by the following week.

She said she still loved him and wanted the marriage to work. Mr Steer said: “But he was heavily involved with Karen Wilson up to and after he killed his wife. They were constantly calling and texting. On the day Vicky was killed there were 244 contacts between them.”

Roberts told police Vicky put her bath robe cord around her own neck – asking him several times to pull it tighter. Suddenly she went limp and fell on her side.

Mr Steer told the jury: “What happened to Vicky was no accident but a deliberate and determined strangulation with a ligature.” He said Roberts texted Karen after the killing saying “good night, beautiful, sweet dreams xx”. Next day he used Vicky’s phones to send bogus texts between them to pretend she was still alive
